The Paper Conservation, Bookbinding and Training Centre is located at the De Beers Archives in Stockdale Street, Kimberley.
This centre was established to not only allow the Trust to fulfil its mandate to preserve the Library’s collections, but also to assist in the process of preservation of South Africa’s documentary heritage by training of paper conservators and bookbinders at courses presented by highly skilled paper conservators.
Although the emphasis of modern paper preservation has tended to move away from the repair of damaged material to strategies for preventative conservation, there is an abundance of material which requires the application of basic conservation techniques as well as other documentary material which require treatment by professionally qualified conservators in order that this may be preserved for posterity.
